Note: Any scenes near roads or crossings were filmed from concealment with a GoPro mounted on a telescoping pole. I never recommend catching out or jumping off on the fly and avoid when possible. In the case of this video I had a very light pack. Trains taken were the KCS I-DAMT on the Alliance Subdivision and the BNSF Z-ALTWSP on the BNSF Fort Worth and Red Rock Subdivisions. 04-11-2017

This is Day 13 of our 10,000 mile road trip across the US and Canada. We stopped in Oklahoma City (OKC!) and explored the downtown area for the day. We visited the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial, the Myriad Botanical Gardens, and Bricktown and the canals in Bricktown. We also ate at Nic's Grill, which has been featured on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives twice! It was amazing and we highly recommend it. Time Stamps: [coming soon] --- What's going on here? We quit our jobs, left New York City, bought a car, and decided to spend the summer driving around the US and Canada. The plan is to hit at least 35 states and 3 provinces and cover more than 10,000 miles. A collection of catches from late March and early April of 2016, showcasing locations along BNSF's Red Rock Subdivision from Norman and further south, discussing the history of the area and the train movements in the present day. It seems like the longer the video is, exponentially more work goes into making it. These 20+ minute videos are definitely tough to make. Riding out of CSX Goulding Yard in Pensacola, Florida to New Orleans, Louisiana. Also shown in the latter part of the video is my ride on Norfolk Southern from New Orleans to Meridian. You can also view my unlisted New Orleans to Pensacola ride here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unsiRXWxuAY
Just before midnight on the night of July 24th an intermodal began to slowly roll under the overpass near the BNSF Midway yard. I was sitting in the shadows around 50 feet up the concrete slope listening to my scanner. Based on earlier research I knew that the train would stop with the double stacks about a thousand feet west of the overpass so I needed to be quick to grab the first 53' I could get. Hearing a dispatcher address "South Seattle" on the radio was enough to confirm that this was indeed my train. With this confirmation I shouldered my pack and ran down to the tracks. It took slightly longer to mount a 53' than I expected and I ended up exposed to the overhead lights for a brief few seconds after we emerged from the cover of the overpass. The train stopped for clearance a...

Join me in my train room as I run a local freight over the road with trainee operator Zeus. Although edited down from over 45 minutes of video, this presentation is shown "warts and all" as I wanted to give viewers an idea of what it's like to operate on my railroad. Thus, I have made no attempt to hide unfinished scenes, the fascia, or other non-railroad objects. The presentation is not quite as polished as I had hoped. I should have made a better effort of cleaning the track and the locomotive wheels. I was struggling with the tripod not being particularly smooth (it's a really cheap tripod). Most of the video was shot with two rather boisterous dogs in the room (Zeus - a 60 lb pit bull puppy and Duke - a 100 lb doberman lapdog). On occasion, they got so loud that I had to re-sh...
Riding the 130N and 130S overnight freights between Anchorage and Fairbanks on the ARR Central and Mountain Subdivisions. It's unfortunate that I went through the best of the scenery in Denali National Park at night, but it was quite simply impossible for me to make this trip happen earlier in the year.

Model Railway based on North East England large scale junction in the 1960's. Trenholme Junction has two Marshalling Yards, the primary on the lower level and the secondary on the upper. This video shows the lower yard utilising two locomotives to re-create operations required to dismantle a make up goods trains. First a 9F pulls into the reception/despatch road with a long train of flat wagons, the shunter removes the loaded wagons at the rear of the train before continuing on its journey. The shunters then make up three new trains from the rolling stock in the yard and from stock from further arriving trains. There is a series of articles which give details of the design, building and operation of the railway in my blog. Read the articles in reverse order (first is at the bottom of the ...
